CENTCOM Activity:

  • Yesterday, in the Red Sea, two anti-ship ballistic missiles were launched by Houthi forces in Yemen towards the merchant ship Pinocchio, which flies under a Liberian flag and is owned by Singapore. The missiles failed to hit their target, causing no harm or damage. Later that day, from 2:50 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Sanaa time, the U.S. Central Command executed six defensive strikes in Yemen, neutralizing an unmanned underwater vehicle and 18 anti-ship missiles deemed a direct threat to commercial and U.S. Navy ships, aiming to ensure safe navigation in international waters.
  • Furthermore, on March 12, 2024, a humanitarian mission was carried out by the U.S. Central Command alongside the Royal Jordanian Air Force, dropping vital food supplies over Northern Gaza at 2:00 p.m. Gaza time. This operation delivered around 5,280 pounds of essential food items such as rice, flour, pasta, and canned goods, using a U.S. Air Force C-130 aircraft. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to provide relief amidst the conflict in Gaza, with further drops planned. Additionally, four U.S. Army Vessels set sail towards the Eastern Mediterranean to set up a temporary dock to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
  • In another event on March 12, between 2:00 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. Sanaa time, a ballistic missile was fired by Houthi rebels at the USS Laboon in the Red Sea, which fortunately missed, resulting in no casualties or damage. Additionally, the U.S. Central Command and a coalition vessel took down two unmanned aerial systems launched from Yemen, securing the area for merchant and Navy ships by mitigating imminent threats to their safety.

Boeing Insider Death:

  • John Barnett, a 62-year-old former Boeing quality inspector who raised concerns about alleged safety defects in planes, was declared dead in Charleston, South Carolina, on Saturday, with the preliminary cause being identified as a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Charleston County Coroner Bobbi Jo O'Neal's announcement on Monday. Barnett, who had dedicated over 30 years of his career to the aerospace company, alerted aviation regulators in 2017 about what he perceived as grave safety issues that could lead to "catastrophic" consequences.
  • His family released a statement on Monday, expressing that Barnett's attempts to expose these significant safety concerns were continuously dismissed by a company culture that prioritized profits over safety. They further noted that Barnett had been struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder and anxiety attacks, exacerbated by a hostile work environment at Boeing, which they believe contributed to his death. In response to the news of his death, Boeing expressed their condolences, stating, We are saddened by Mr. Barnett's passing, and our thoughts are with his family and friends.
