Ukraine Aid:

  • The U.S. has approved the delivery of advanced American-manufactured fighter jets to Ukraine. Since Russia's invasion, Ukraine has received from $43.1B in U.S. military aid, mainly through existing US military equipment, including tanks. The US has also allowed allies to provide Ukraine with Soviet-era aircraft.
  • In May, President Biden indicated to NATO members his openness to F-16 transfers to Ukraine but didn't specify a date. Recently, Denmark and the Netherlands received U.S. authorization to send 61 F-16 jets to Ukraine, contingent upon Ukrainian pilot training.

SpaceX Launch:

@SpaceX
  • Yesterday, SpaceX launched 21 Starlink satellites into orbit from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. This contributed to their growing satellite constellation, which now boasts nearly 5,000 satellites.
  • Today, SpaceX and NASA are preparing for the launch of the Falcon 9 rocket carrying Dragon's seventh operational human spaceflight mission (Crew-7) to the International Space Station from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
  • The Dragon spacecraft, having previously served other Crew missions, is set for another journey. After stage separation, the Falcon 9's first stage is expected to land at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. Once at the space station, the crew will conduct various scientific experiments and technological demonstrations.
  • Additionally, SpaceX's nearly 5,000 satellites in orbit make it the entity with the most satellites on Earth, surpassing the combined total of all government and commercial satellites. These satellites not only provide the Starlink Internet service but also aid U.S. military intelligence, surveillance, communications, and military technology through the Starshield program, stemming from SpaceX's contract with the Department of Defense (DOD).

Microsoft To Add Python to Excel:

  • Microsoft is introducing Python to Excel, allowing users to embed Python code directly into spreadsheets. This will benefit data analysts, engineers, marketers, and data science students by facilitating complex statistical analysis, advanced visualizations, predictive analytics, and machine learning.
  • Users can input Python code directly into cells with the new =PY function without additional software installations. The integration uses the Anaconda Python distribution, which includes libraries such as pandas and Matplotlib.
  • For security, Python in Excel operates on the Microsoft Cloud (Azure) with robust security measures, ensuring code execution happens remotely. Data is managed with xl() and =PY() functions for authorized actions only. This feature is in public preview for Microsoft 365 Insiders on the Beta Channel for Excel on Windows.
  • Python is a high-level, versatile programming language known for its clear syntax and readability. It's mainly used in machine learning, data science, artificial intelligence, and scientific computing. Integrating Python into Excel will significantly enhance its data analysis, visualization, and computational capabilities.
