CENTCOM Activity:

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) reported a series of incidents aimed at safeguarding international waters and ensuring the safety of navigation in the Red Sea. On May 27, at 4 a.m. (Sanaa time), CENTCOM forces neutralized an unmanned aerial system (UAS) launched from an area in Yemen controlled by Iranian-backed Houthis. The UAS was deemed an imminent threat to merchant vessels in the vicinity.
In related actions to maintain maritime security, CENTCOM forces had previously intercepted another UAS under similar circumstances on May 26 around 10 a.m. (Sanaa time), also over the Red Sea and originating from Houthi-controlled territories. These operations underscore CENTCOM's commitment to protect freedom of navigation and enhance safety for U.S., coalition, and commercial vessels against potential threats.
Furthermore, on May 25 at about 3:50 a.m. (Sanaa time), the Houthis launched two anti-ship ballistic missiles (ASBM) toward the Red Sea, although no damages or injuries were reported. This pattern of aggressive actions by the Houthis poses a continual threat to regional stability and the safety of those at sea. Meanwhile, CENTCOM continues to collaborate with international agencies such as USAID and the UN to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza. As of May 24, a total of 1005 metric tons of aid had been transferred from the sea to a beach point, and from there, 903 metric tons were further distributed to a UN warehouse, including significant deliveries on May 23 and 24.

Eindhoven Data Breach:

In Eindhoven, a city in the Netherlands, the personal details of nearly all its residents were exposed in a data breach. Reports from Eindhovens Dagblad highlighted that unauthorized parties accessed two files containing the personal information of 221,511 individuals. This data included the citizen service number (burgerservicenummer or BSN), akin to a social security number, which is critical for interactions with the government like tax, social security, and healthcare.
The breach, however, was not immediately reported to the Dutch data protection authority within the mandated 72 hours, and the affected residents were not promptly informed. The municipality's spokesperson stated that the risk of identity theft was considered unlikely, which influenced their decision against immediate notification. It was only months later that the details of the incident became public, raising significant concerns about data handling and transparency.
While the leak was contained internally within the municipality's systems, the extent of unauthorized internal access to the data remains unclear, including whether any misuse of the data occurred. In response to this breach and approximately 200 others of varying severity, the Dutch data protection authority has placed the municipality of Eindhoven under closer supervision. This case highlights the urgent need for strict measures to protect personal information and secure systems against unauthorized access.
