Putin and Prigozhin:

  • Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of Wagner who came close to a march on Moscow last Saturday, spoke out for the first time since he canceled the campaign.
  • In a video disseminated on Monday, Prigozhin clarified his actions, stating, "We didn't proceed with the march to dethrone the current Russian leadership." He elaborated further by stating that the aim was to "prevent the disintegration of the Wagner group and to hold to account those officials who are responsible for an extensive series of errors."
  • In a sharp counteraction, President Putin labeled him as a betrayer of Russia and extended an invitation to the Wagner fighters to align with Russian forces. It was also suggested by Russian state-controlled media that Prigozhin continues to be under investigation. However, there's no knowledge of his current whereabouts.

Biden’s Internet Infrastructure:

  • President Joe Biden has announced a $42 billion initiative to provide every American household with high-speed internet by 2030.
  • The funds, already approved by Congress, will be distributed over the next two years through the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment program, overseen by the Department of Commerce.
  • Each state will receive at least $107 million, with 19 states getting over $1 billion and Texas expected to get more than $3.3 billion. Currently, more than 8.5 million homes and businesses, or over 7% of the country, are underserved, with internet speeds below the government's standards.

  • Meta unveiled Meta Quest+, a virtual reality subscription service, on Monday. This service, priced at $7.99 a month, will provide subscribers with two new games each month. The Quest 2, Quest Pro, and the forthcoming Quest 3 are all compatible with Meta Quest+.
  • This is the newest venture by Meta to generate consistent revenue from its Reality Labs division, the unit responsible for developing virtual and augmented reality technologies. Despite Reality Labs reporting a $3.99 billion operating loss in the first quarter, it managed to generate $339 million in revenue.
  • The release of new games for Meta Quest+ subscribers will take place on the first day of each month, and subscribers can play these games as long as their subscription remains active.
