The U.S. Appeals Court has temporarily halted a ban, thus allowing the Biden administration to influence content on social media platforms. This pause permits the government to direct social media companies to censor certain information, a move some critics argue violates constitutional free speech protections.
The decision was made by a three-judge panel, which included appointees from the Clinton, Obama, and Trump presidencies. As the case continues in the 5th US Circuit Court of Appeals, the Justice Department is resisting a nationwide injunction that prevents such governmental influence.
Critics, including Republican attorneys general from Louisiana and Missouri and certain individual users, allege the administration is unconstitutionally forcing social media platforms to eliminate information about Covid-19 that contradicts its position.

In a recent press conference where Hollywood actors announced their strike, Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, chief negotiator for the Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA), disclosed a proposal from Hollywood studios involving the digital use of actors' likenesses using artificial intelligence.
The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) described their proposition as a "groundbreaking AI proposal" that protects actors' digital images. However, Crabtree-Ireland argued that this proposal allows studios to scan background performers, pay them for one day, and then retain the rights to use their digital image indefinitely, without further compensation or consent.
Countering this, AMPTP spokesperson Scott Rowe denied these claims, insisting their proposal only permits the use of an actor's digital replica for the specific project they were employed for. Any further use would require the actor's consent and additional negotiation for compensation.
