Bill Gates meets with Xi Jinping:

  • In a recent meeting with Bill Gates, Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed his approval for U.S. companies like Microsoft to bring their artificial intelligence (AI) tech to China, according to two sources familiar with the talks. This occurred amid Microsoft's ongoing business development in China, discussed during the meeting in Beijing.
  • Gates, the Microsoft co-founder who now focuses on philanthropy, discussed the global significance of AI with Xi. Despite strained U.S.-China relations and the presence of export controls that limit China's AI growth, Xi acknowledged the potential of AI to drive economic development.
  • The Chinese government is currently considering a new law on AI technology, with particular interest in generative AI. Despite the tech giant's struggles with tightened internet controls in China, Microsoft maintains a significant footprint, including its Bing search engine, the only foreign search engine accessible in China.

GPT-4 MIT Test:

  • Researchers challenged AI model GPT-4 with a comprehensive set of 4,550 questions covering MIT's Mathematics and Computer Science program. Utilizing carefully crafted prompts, the AI remarkably scored 100%.
  • The successful prompts involved a novel strategy: they asked the AI to identify field experts, generate responses as if written by these experts, and then collaboratively combine these expert-level answers. This approach essentially transforms the AI into a brainstorming and decision-making tool, promoting creativity.
  • This achievement underscores GPT-4's potential in revolutionizing education, problem-solving, and creativity. It demonstrates that AI, when properly prompted, can not only master complex academic material but also generate innovative solutions by mimicking the collaborative decision-making process of multiple experts.

Michael Jordan's Charlotte Hornets Stake:

  • NBA icon Michael Jordan is selling his majority stake in the Charlotte Hornets for an estimated $3 billion to a consortium headed by Gabe Plotkin and Rick Schnall, generating over ten times his original investment.
  • The purchase price wasn't disclosed, but the Hornets confirmed the deal. Plotkin, a current Hornets minority owner, and Schnall, a minority owner of the Atlanta Hawks, are set to become franchise governors following NBA approval. While this ends Jordan's 13-year tenure as majority owner, he will retain a minor stake.
  • Schnall is anticipated to sell his Hawks shares within weeks. Jordan bought the majority stake in the Hornets for $275 million in 2010 and later sold a sizeable minority stake to Plotkin, founder of Melvin Capital, and Daniel Sundheim, founder of D1 Capital. J. Cole, Sundheim, and Eric Church are also part of the new ownership group.
