Warner Bros Sues The NBA:

  • Warner Bros. Discovery has sued the NBA in a move to retain its broadcast rights for live games. The dispute began after the NBA declined Warner Bros. Discovery's attempt to match an offer from another party, leading the company to seek legal enforcement of its rights. Warner Bros. Discovery believes maintaining these rights is crucial for its platforms, including TNT and Max, and beneficial for fans.
  • The lawsuit aims to either prevent the NBA from awarding these rights to Amazon or to obtain financial compensation if the rights are transferred. This situation emerged when the NBA announced new agreements with Disney, Comcast's NBCUniversal, and Amazon for different game packages. These new deals ended a nearly 40-year relationship with Warner Bros. Discovery's Turner Sports.
  • The new 11-year media rights deal is worth about $77 billion, reflecting the increasing value of live sports content. In response, NBA spokesman Mike Bass stated that Warner Bros. Discovery's claims lack merit and will be addressed by their legal team. This legal battle underscores the intense competition for sports broadcasting rights as the demand for live sports continues to grow.

Mistral’s New AI Model:

  • Mistral AI has unveiled its latest language model, Mistral Large 2, designed for high-performance single-node inference with an extensive 128k context window. This model supports a broad range of languages, including French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Arabic, Hindi, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean, along with more than 80 coding languages such as Python, Java, C, C++, JavaScript, and Bash. With 123 billion parameters, Mistral Large 2 is optimized for significant throughput on a single node and is available under the Mistral Research License for non-commercial use, while commercial deployment requires a separate license.
  • The model excels in code and reasoning tasks, outperforming its predecessor and matching the capabilities of leading models like GPT-4 and Claude 3 Opus. Notably, Mistral Large 2 can recognize when it lacks sufficient information to answer a query confidently, improving its performance on mathematical and reasoning benchmarks. Users can access it via La Plateforme under the name mistral-large-2407, where it can be tested on "le Chat" and found under version 24.07.
  • The model's weights for the instruct version are also available on HuggingFace. Additionally, Mistral AI has partnered with major cloud providers, making the model available on Google Cloud Platform through Vertex AI, Azure AI Studio, Amazon Bedrock, and IBM Watsonx.ai. These partnerships ensure that users can integrate Mistral Large 2 into their workflows efficiently, leveraging its advanced capabilities for both research and commercial applications.
