Realme Smartphones:

Realme, a Chinese smartphone manufacturer, recently announced it has surpassed the milestone of shipping 200 million phones since its inception over five years ago. This achievement places Realme as the fifth fastest company to reach this volume, with most of its shipments being outside China. Owned by BBK Electronics, which also owns Oppo and Vivo, Realme reached this mark in the second quarter.
Market analytics firm Counterpoint Research notes that only Vivo, Huawei, Samsung, and Apple have shipped 200 million units in a shorter period. Globally, only 14 companies have achieved this level of shipment. Realme's Chief Marketing Officer, Xu Qi, expressed pride in the company's performance, especially considering the competitive market with over 700 smartphone brands in 2017, which has now reduced to about 250.
Looking forward, Realme is preparing to enter the premium phone market with the launch of the Realme GT 5 Pro. This new model will feature cutting-edge technology, including Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip and Sony's new Lytia camera sensor, positioning Realme alongside competitors like Xiaomi, which recently released its Xiaomi 14 Pro with the same Qualcomm chip.

Wealthsimple Inc., a Toronto-based fintech company, announced the launch of a new service providing retail investors with access to private equity. This new offering, named Wealthsimple Private Equity, is a collaboration with LGT Capital Partners, a wealth management group serving the Liechtenstein royal family.
The company acknowledges the risks involved in private equity but suggests it could yield high returns for investors who are willing to commit to long-term investments and can handle the inherent volatility and illiquidity. Wealthsimple is targeting clients with a minimum of $100,000 in deposits and the financial flexibility to engage with the fund's relative illiquidity.
Private equity funds typically invest in companies that are poised for value growth. These funds acquire such companies, improve them, and aim to sell them at a higher price. The move to offer private equity to retail investors aligns with a growing trend where private markets, encompassing both debt and equity, are increasingly accessible to this group. Over the past decade, there has been a noticeable shift away from traditional finance, prompting fund managers to offer more alternative investment options to retail investors.
