Israel’s Iron Beam:

  • Facing escalating tensions with Hamas, Israel plans to introduce its state-of-the-art Iron Beam laser system earlier than anticipated, enhancing its air defense. Designed to tackle short-range threats, this laser will be a key addition to Israel's multifaceted missile defense setup.
  • Revealed by the Israeli defense company Rafael Advanced Defense Systems in 2014, the Iron Beam is a potent energy-focused air defense mechanism. Its primary role is countering threats in proximity, potentially missed by the Iron Dome.
  • While an Iron Dome missile interception costs about $50,000, the Iron Beam operates at $2 per intercept. Utilizing a hefty 100kW of power and boasting a reach of 7 km, it's equipped to neutralize drones as well. It joins the ranks of other defense tools Israel possesses, such as Arrow 2, Arrow 3, and David's Sling.

Qatar Airways Partners with SpaceX:

  • Qatar Airways has now partnered with SpaceX to offer passengers free Starlink WiFi on board, boasting speeds reaching 350Mbps for every traveler.
  • This collaboration marks Qatar Airways as the premier airline to collaborate with Starlink. The new arrangement means travelers won't just receive complimentary WiFi but will also benefit from significantly boosted download speeds.
  • This upgrade propels download speeds from the current 10Mbps provided by QR's Super WiFi to an impressive 350Mbps per user or device. When this service is up and running, passengers can anticipate ultra-rapid WiFi, suitable for activities like online communications, gaming, using VPNs, streaming sports, and more.
