Colombian Kids Rescued:

  • On May 1st, a small passenger plane crashed in the Amazon rainforest, claiming the lives of all three adults onboard. However, the four children on board - ages 13, 9, 4, and 11 months - went missing.
  • Forty days after this incident, Colombia's military successfully located and rescued these children from the rainforest. They had managed to survive near the crash site, living on flour that had been aboard the aircraft.
  • Despite the false announcement made by the Colombian president last month about their discovery, it wasn't until this Friday that they were truly found. Now safe, the children are reported to be in good health.

I-95 Collapse:

  • A tanker truck exploded into flames underneath an overpass on Interstate 95 in Northeast Philadelphia, causing a section of the bridge to collapse. Following the incident, both north and southbound lanes have been closed, leading to significant traffic disruptions in the city.
  • In response to the situation, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro announced his intention to issue a disaster declaration to access federal funds for rebuilding the destroyed bridge.
  • Shapiro acknowledged that the repair and reconstruction process could take several months, with more precise timelines still to be provided by PennDOT officials and engineers. To manage the disruption, officials are devising alternative routes for motorists.

George Soros Succession:

  • Billionaire George Soros, at the age of 92, has decided to pass the reins of his $25 billion empire to his son, Alexander. The empire includes a vast range of investments, financial assets, philanthropic organizations, and other entities.
  • The most significant among these are investment firm Soros Fund Management and Open Society Foundations (OSF), a global grantmaking network that funds civil society groups worldwide, with a focus on justice, democratic governance, and human rights.
  • Soros' decision to hand over control to 37-year-old Alexander signifies a significant shift, considering his initial reluctance to let any of his five children succeed him.
