Secret CIA Meeting With China:

  • Last November, Presidents Xi Jining of China and Joe Biden of the US agreed to engage in talks early in 2023. However, the dynamics shifted when the US intercepted an alleged Chinese spy balloon in February, leading to the cancellation of these discussions.
  • Attempts to reschedule have remained unsuccessful, as China has consistently turned down offers for official meetings proposed by the US.
  • Facing numerous hurdles, CIA Director William Burns embarked on a secretive journey to China. His objective was to engage with Chinese intelligence authorities in order to repair their strained bonds and revive crucial discussions.
  • The importance of his visit is emphasized by the fact that he is the highest-ranking US official to make such a trip during Biden's presidency. However, the ultimate outcome of this diplomatic endeavor remains uncertain.

California's College Athletes Revenue Share:

  • The California State Assembly has recently approved a bill aiming to mandate colleges to distribute a portion of their sports-related revenues to athletes. Under the proposed legislation, any revenue exceeding the figures from the 2021/2022 academic year would be directed towards the athletes.
  • This income would be allocated evenly between male and female athletes, and subsequently divided among various teams in proportion to their respective revenue contributions.
  • This framework ensures that all team members, irrespective of their position or skill level, receive an equal share. The potential annual earnings for players could reach up to $25,000, with additional financial benefits upon graduation. The bill now awaits the approval of the state senate, although it's worth noting that the NCAA strongly opposes it.
