Title 42:

@BILLFOXLA
  • Title 42 will expire on Thursday, May 11th. The termination of Title 42 is expected to result in a significant influx of migrants at the southern border. Since its enactment in 2020, over 3 million individuals have been turned away using this policy.
  • In response, the Pentagon will deploy 1,500 active-duty troops to assist Customs and Border Patrol for 90 days. El Paso, a border city, has declared a state of emergency in anticipation of the migrant surge, allowing the city to open temporary shelters and use federal funds to address the issue.

TROPICS Satellite Launch:

@NASA
  • The TROPICS (Time-Resolved Observations of Precipitation Structure and Storm Intensity with a Constellation of Smallsats) are shoebox-sized satellites joining NASA's Earth observation missions. These satellites focus on studying the formation and development of tropical cyclones.
  • The primary benefit of TROPICS satellites is their ability to gather near-hourly data on tropical cyclones, which are powerful and potentially destructive weather systems.
  • By collecting data at such high frequency, these satellites can provide scientists and meteorologists with crucial information about the cyclones' structure, intensity, and changes over time.

Formula 1:

  • Max Verstappen won the Miami Grand Prix. Verstappen has had a strong season, with three wins and two second-place finishes. Other noteworthy racers included Fernando Alonso, finishing third, and Lewis Hamilton, who climbed from 13th to sixth place.
