CENTCOM Activity:

  • On March 6th, 7:14 p.m. Sanaa local time, the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) responded by targeting two unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in Yemen under Houthi control. The strikes were executed as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety and security of international maritime routes, safeguarding both U.S. Navy and commercial ships in the region.
  • In a separate initiative aimed at providing aid to those affected by the Israel vs Hamas conflict, on March 7, 2024, at 3:20 p.m. Gaza time, CENTCOM, in collaboration with the Royal Jordanian Air Force, carried out a humanitarian airdrop in Northern Gaza. This operation was designed to deliver crucial supplies to the civilian population caught in the ongoing military campaign in the Gaza.
  • The humanitarian mission featured a joint effort involving U.S. Air Force and Jordanian C-130 aircraft, supported by aerial distribution of 38,000 meals, offering vital sustenance and facilitating access to essential humanitarian assistance for the people in Northern Gaza. Google Insider Espionage:

  • The Justice Department disclosed on Wednesday that Linwei Ding, a former Google software engineer and a citizen of China, has been apprehended and charged with pilfering artificial intelligence trade secrets for the benefit of two Chinese firms. Ding was arrested in Newark, California, and faces four federal charges related to the theft of trade secrets, with each charge carrying a maximum sentence of 10 years in jail.
  • This development was shared by Attorney General Merrick Garland during a conference held by the American Bar Association in San Francisco. Garland, along with top figures in law enforcement, has frequently expressed concerns regarding the risks posed by Chinese economic espionage and the security implications of advancements in artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies.
  • FBI Director Christopher Wray commented on the case, emphasizing its significance as a demonstration of the extreme measures that entities linked to the People's Republic of China might resort to in order to misappropriate American technological innovations. Wray highlighted the severe impact that stealing groundbreaking technology and trade secrets can have on the U.S. economy, including job losses and broader economic and national security ramifications.
